The Smulders Projects UK yard, Wallsend is used for the fabrication of the lower parts of off-shore wind farm jackets and for final assembly with units from Smulders in Poland and Belgium before shipping.
28 jackets, measuring 68 to 81 metres tall, are being assembled for the Beatrice off shore wind farm off Caithness.
11 suction bucket foundations are being made for Vattenfall’s European Offshore Wind Deployment Centre (EOWDC) off Aberdeen Bay.
It is difficult to keep up with the ownership and fortunes of Hadrian Yard in Wallsend. Recent owners have been AMEC and OGN (Offshore Group Newcastle), but the current activity on the site is being undertaken by the Belgian Smulders Group. The new work consists of submersible jackets for offshore wind turbines. It is very good to see the yard active again, supporting green energy.
